My roommate has a "frankenbike" he shouldn't have bought. We've never seen it run -- but then again we haven't tried yet either. Anyway, his best bet is to part it out and try to buy something that is closer to stock.

    Enter 1982 Yamaha XJ900 Seca.

    Keep in mind:
    - the font fairing is in bad condition, with broken clips
    - many of the plastic fairings have been "subtly" cut into to make room for extra support tubing
    - most of the rest of the bike is reasonable
    - carbs are there, haven't pulled them yet
    - the rest is mostly complete

What kind of interest is there for parts from this bike?

Here are some pics, more to come of parts if you're interested!

I don't suppose there is any easy way to get that across the border to the US of A, is there?

Possibly. I'm not sure how it works but we are about 1.5 hours from Buffalo. What were you thinking? The whole bike?

Mostly the engine and related pieces (wiring and carbs), as I don't think I can take the whole bike across.

Yes it does. It's a bit of a "frankenbike."

Any price on the engine, or am I just whistling in the wind?

    Sorry. What's a reasonable price for this motor in unknown-but-likely-good condition? $300? $500? $1M?

    They are welded on.

$300 would be at the top.

There was one on e-bay for $400, guaranteed, last summer (with video of it running, no less), but that was without carbs.

Dano is selling a complete Seca 9 right here on the forums for $300 complete, but needs a timing chain. Unfortunately, San Diego is too far for me right now.

For $300, I would want the carbs, exhaust, and wiring with the complete engine.
