Hey everyone, I own an 83 xj650lk / seca turbo. The bike seems to not notice when it is in nuetral. I can get the bike in nuetral mechanicaly, but the sensor doesn't reconize that it is. So i cant put the kickstand down or it will kill. Not a big problem, just really annoying. Have to shut her down just to close the garage door and have to sit on her while she warms up. Any ideas why it doesn't electronicaly reconize why it is in nuetral and how to fix it?

    Thanks

Bad neutral switch or its wiring. The neutral switch is a very simple device that lives in a harsh environment; check the wiring/clean it before assuming it's failed.

Still new to the bike so try not to laugh to hard; where is the nuetral switch located. Near the kickstand?

No, that would be the sidestand switch.

It's on the left side, inside the shifter housing somewhere. I've not a had a shaft-driven XJ that far apart so I can't tell you exactly where; someone else will need to jump in.

The neutral switch is located up inside a small "well" cast intot he bottom crankcase, just outboard of the oil pan rail......so when the engine is in the frame, the neutral switch is in-between the outer edge of the oil pan and the frame tube.....REALLY hard to access what with the exhaust system being in the way. There is single "sky blue" (very light, baby blue) wire going to it.
