I was thinking about replacing the original gauges in my xj750 seca for the Vapor gauges. Then I thought what about if I fit in the vapor gauges into the original gauge casing. The reason for that is because I want to keep my bike close to original.

Let see how it turns out.

If you have any suggestion please feel free to share.

I am going to start posting pics of the progress.

Thanks Ltdave. Do you have any idea what kind of plastic is the original casing made of? Is it Polistyrene?

It might be ABS. I repaired the odometer reset knob with some ABS pipe cement and I know many of the body pieces are ABS.

What's the size difference?? How about a pic of both please??
I'm going into my "Atari" to deal with the rust and swap in some LED's.

I went to a store where they sale every kind of plastic. The plan is to take the speedo and the tacho out. The Vapor gauges totally fit in the casing they are alot smaller. ( I will post pics as soon as I get the newones). I need to fill the gaps around the vapor gauges. I think I will use PVC. It looks almost the same but it is a softer material and I will be able to work with easier.

I got the vapor with the extra light for signal lights and other warning lights but I will try to keep the original warning lights.

I have to say that the original gauges where pretty advace for the time.

Good news! It work out really well. check the picture. Now I need to fill the gap with black PVC plastic or similar. Right now I am creatting the template with a piece of plastic form an old folder.

    What do you think?

I think after I place the piece od black PVC is going to look good.

Quite a lot of size difference there...
Taking off the cover of the Vapor and wiring the lamps to their original places would be even cooler =)

The lamps on top will be functional. I will lose some on the warning alerts on the LCD screen and the one that I'm gonna miss is the fuel gauge. Oh well.

could you not move the vapor unit to one side and fit a small autometer digital fuel gauge next to it? could work, and will take up some of the space you have!

I thought about that. In fact I researched for hours and I came to the conclusion that it will be funny enough with the vapor gauges inside the atari. Plus I think I will learn to keep an eye on the odometer. Thanks for your suggestion though!
