I got a 198i2 maxim 750j. It had sat for 13 years. I have got everything except pressurein the front brake lines, fixed or replaced. I took my first ride today 12 miles to work. After I parked it, I saw a run spot around the back left side of the rear tire. The tire doesn't appear to be adjustable with it being a shaft drive. Is this true, or is there a way to adjust rim left to right? The 4 bolts into the rear diferential were loose when I got the bike, but I tightened those????

    Hi Dsweet,
Your right about not being able to adjust the alignment of the diff version. Although bad swingarm bearings or stubs will allow the wheel to move left to right or back and forwards for that matter, depending on how bad they are.

I would have thought that if the wheel was leaning far enough to give you a wear mark on the edge it would be pretty hard to ride in a straight line and the swingarm and rear shocks would have to be in some sort of weird condition though. So maybe something else is rubbing on the tyre?

    Just a thought.

    a run spot.

that tire is 13 years old. it's probably just some weathered rubber wearing down.

put the bike in neutral and on the center stand. spin the tire. it's probably spinning straight and has nothing wrong with it.

lol, thanks for input. Turns out to just be underinflated tire, duh!!! I guess we all have dumb moments. New tires on the way, so that will solve that issue. Now I have a wheel bearing going out on the front I think. There is a loud obnoxious noise in the front, that even now is sounding like metal to metal, and getting worse the farther I go. The only thing that I can think is maybe a wheel bearing???

You shouldn't just get a 13-year-sitter ... "Running", and jump-on and go for a ride.

For your own safety, you should do all the needed maintenance and make sure the bike is safe to ride.

    Safe tires.
    Safe Brakes.
    Working Brakes.
    Inflated tires.
    Motor Oil.
    Lights and Signals.

    Be careful.
Get it to where it would PASS a basic Inspection before risking your life in traffic.

STOP RIDING IT and FIX everything before you kill yourself. The bike in good condition is the only thing between you and the blacktop.

I've got to agree with the guys, you are tempting fate by riding that thing without having checked and adjusted all of the safety systems on the bike. Do the folks who love you, yourself and all the rest of us a favor and take that thing out of service until you have gone through it properly Sweet.
Trust us, this is not a good sign.
