    Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a side cover to go over the gaping hole under the triangle panel on the drivers side. There is a post for something to attach to. I know that the factory tool pouch goes in there, but is there something else? Just curious.

that would be the location of the lock and chain that came with the maxim.. well it came with mine anyway.. the end of the chain connects to the post on the frame.. .the ignition key works the chain lock as well.

Actually, the tool kit went into a tray under the seat.

The spot in your pic is for the factory theft chain. The lock on the chain attached to that post and used the same key as the other locks on the bike. Very few bikes have the original chain now.

Check out the pic at the bottom of this page. The pic is of an 82 XJ650R, but would be the same thing for your XJ.

Interesting, There is a cable lock in the trunk under the seat, anti theft chain as well?

The cable lock was probably the idea of a PO. The original lock and chain that came with the XJs had YAMAHA stamped into the lock by the keyhole.
