Since the search on this forum sucks so bad, I'm sure it is posted somewhere but impossible to find.

What I need is a pic of a PROPERLY adjusted rear brake drum actuator arm and rod so I can see what I need to be shooting for. I need to get this thing done soon as riding season will be fast upon us.

I don't know how well you can see it in this pic; and on my black bike, I blacked all that stuff out so it's really hard to see in "long" shots.

I'll be home in about 4hrs; I'll get you a close up then. The 550 Seca has the same rear brake as your 400, BTW.

basically just adjust the arm so that your brakes are tighter. just make sure your brake light is on when your brakes are hitting.

sometimes an adjustment of the light switch itself might be in order.

    Hey DW,

On the subject of searching through this site, read my reply below that I had posted on another thread. It helps with refining your searches.

Here you go. Same brake as yours, new shoes, adjusted by the book.

Note the little punched "dot" on the cam shaft. From what I can tell, it has no bearing on ANYTHING and is a by-product of the manufacturing process. Maybe it's supposed to point straight forward, I dunno.

The "dot" on the brake lever shaft however, does need to line up with the "tic" on the lever.

also, would you say that the arm is greater than 90 degress to the ground? Or is it almost straight up and down?

Yep. The pedal has a little "tic" mark at the top, it's supposed to line up with the dot on the pedal's pivot shaft.

I still haven't figured out the dot on the brake cam shaft.

I just went and looked at both bikes. The arm is ALMOST straight down, the bottom is just slightly forward. The split in the arm is virtually straight up. The camera angle in the above pic is off slightly.
