Speedo cable should run from speedo to speedo drive on front axle. Stock fuse boxes are junk, there is a variety of replacement options there. Good luck.

82 650 tach should pickup off of the TCI and ignition coil, should be an orange wire.

On the 82 650 J, the tach is electronic. There is no cable, just an orange wire tapped off of the Transistorized Control Unit (listed as an ignitor unit in the schematic). If the tach has a threaded boss for a cable, you have the wrong gauge setup on the bike or the bike is older than 82.
The earlier tachs were opperated by a gear take-off located on the front of the head, just below the valve cover on the right side (left if you are facing the bike). You should see a threaded boss there too. If you don't have a boss, you definetely have the wrong guage.
The TCI is located on the left side, under the side cover. It will be a black box with two connectors on it, one 4 pin and the other 6.
The silver finned box is your voltage regulator/converter.

I'm not sure what "emblems" you are looking for? I do have a pair of Yamaha tank badges for sale, if that is what your looking for. I took them off of my bike, 81' xj650. Let me know if you want them...

thats gotta be it then. the title says an 82. the gauges are wrong then. the tach isnt even hooded up--no wonder.. thanks now i can start looking for the right gauges. The tank has broken up yamaha emblems that are the letters YAMAHA- there isnt even chrome on them and the Y is broke off em. I sure could use new emblems there --thanks guys . I am on the road with it as of earlier tody. right when i pulled on the road i saw another maxim cruise by. Its was nice on the oregon coast today.. Oh- my tank emblems screw on--i gotta sleep but ill leave the pc on-if your emblems are like mine yea could use em.
