From the write-up, I would think that would work. I have used electronic flashers on lift trucks in the past. The flash rate for those devices was constant under all load conditions. The only down side to the ones I have is size. They are big. These appear to have overcome that issue.

That's what I have on mine and it seems to work just fine. I had LEDs on the rear of my bike and filement lights on the front and they worked perfect with that flasher.

My electronic flasher is the two-pin type. And no, I do not have the self canceling signal lights anymore. Mine never did work anyway and I just cancel them manually so I don't forget and leave them on like I see some people do.

You would need a flasher with three pins to use the auto-cancel.

However, I don't think this flasher would make the auto cancel work.

You can pick up a two pin flasher at the auto parts for around six bucks.
Either one will flash, but neither one will allow the auto-cancel to work properly.

I bought the flasher at a local auto part store and did not work on my bike(xj750 seca) I had to put the thermal back on.

Modifying any non-Yamaha flasher requires some electronics engineering to make the self-cancelling feature work. The Yamaha cancelling unit, which includes a timer and gets input from a reedswitch in the speedo, "interacts" with the relay in a rather proprietary fashion. There's no "plug-n-play" solution that will preserve the original self-canceler.

Which is not to say it's impossible; it HAS been done, but it requires a bit of re-engineering, building a circuit with an IC in it IIRC; do a forum search you'll find it.

im trying to get my right hand flasher working on my 82 xj650j. I have cleaned the sockets and new bulbs- the left hand works and the right hand when i turn it on it makes the flasher buzz until i cancel it. It has an aftermarket (loud) fiann horn and relay and on the horn relay there are some loose wires there?

Someone did a writeup here (cant link on phone ATM) using electric flasher plus an extra relay to replace the OEM thermal and keep auto cancel working.

I have all the parts and 4 led signals, but have not tried it yet. Will let all know if it works with pictures.

Bob and Maverick are right: just an extra relay, no IC required. Not sure what I can do about reposting the pictures though... need some new hosting for them and the post is no-longer editable...

photobucket is you friend and just post it at the end of the post.

You could also copy/paste the text with new picture hosts and start a new thread with any edits that are valid.

Someone asked which one I have? I have the 2 pin electronic flasher and no, I don't have any self cancelling unit on mine anymore. I just have brighter LED indicators up by the speedometer so I remember to shut them off.
