Hi all, just getting my head around the brakes on my XJ750R - 45T

According to the manual, rubber brake lines have a safe service life of four years, do stainless/teflon lines have a specified life limit or do they need periodic pressure testing to prove them ? Also a number of posts report fitting stainless lines imroves braking performance, is it just a more solid feel on the lever or an actual improvement in stopping distance ? Is there any test data on this that anyone knows of ?

    Cheers, Ian

I just replaced my lines with the stainless steel lines from Chacal and I can tell you it definitely made a difference. The feel is better and the stopping distance is better also. It was only a few $ difference between rubber ones and the s/s ones.

The SS lines are positively better than 28? year old original brake lines. A very noticable improvement, yes a more positive feel, less squeezing at th lever needed for a quicker result. I was surprised at th difference ..make sure you do a good job on th fluid bleeding as well(another ballgame) As i recall mine have a 'lifetime' warranty.

My set also has a lifetime warranty, since the original rubber lines made it 25 years i would think a better quality stainless set is goint to last much longer.
Stainless lines will make you stop quicker, no doubt about it.
