...and I was curious if you can put a larger gas tank on here without major modifications so that on long trips I don't have to stop as much for fuel? Thanks.

I haven't done it; but from other letters on the forum, the xj750 tank is interchangeable.

If you find one that fits and has significantly more room, you'll probably need to modify the front of your seat to fit the bigger tank.

You might try a 650 or 750 Seca gas tank.

More specifically - the 750 Maxim's tank is interchangeable - gives you an extra 6 litres of fuel (19 vs 13).

And the 750 SECA tank won't fit without a little bid of mods to the rear gas tank mount. And, it looks like butt. Without all those fairings, it just doesn't look right on a naked Maxim.......

I had to edit this post because I changed my mind and decided to keep both tanks incase I need the extra fuel on longer runs.

So just so that i can make it clear for me anyways, do the posts above mean that you can mount a XJ750 tank on the XJ650? I have a '83 XJ650 and am hoping that i understand it correctly as I would love to be able to extend the range on my baby.

That is correct - the XJ750 Maxim's tank will fit with no modifications on an XJ650 Maxim.

I have an xj750 tank on my 650 and it makes it look beefier and I get more gas per fill up which is great for those long rides.

    I once put on a Honda 750 tank (1982 750 K or C) - NOT SURE)
    very little mods.

If I remember correctly, the difference was in the hold down bolt and needing different rubber grommets at the front.

As we discovered in a different thread - no, this is not a direct swap. The 550 uses a slightly different size tank than the 650/750's so the tanks don't fit.

    Sorry

    Garofski,
To answer your question, NO, a 750 Seca or 650 Maxim tank will not fit on your 550. Just find Sanoke and ask him.
