New Member, New Project

Just a quick nod to all and give a few details

Those that know me call me Ghost. You'll figure out why with time!
Back up on two for a few years now after a couple decade hiatis (so much for life and marriage). Long Haul Trucker by trade (hint) so the other half of life is long and boring.

Started out picking up a 83 XJ750K Maxim for a song, thinking it would be a good rider. Big surprise! Left 2 cylinders were cooked. P/O had run without an air filter for who knows how long. Fresh set of plugs to sell it. It got stripped down and set aside and I picked up an 80 CB650C from a more trustworthy source. Three years later I have all the little bugs worked out now and its my current rider. Good bike. quick and fun, but a little small for riding 2 up in my case.

My plans for the Maxim are a full frame up restore as $$ permits. I have already picked up a windjammer 2/3 and bates bags for it, and I'm sure there will be a few questions along the way!

Yea, there should probably be a dedicated project section, but the majority of people are putting their projects/builds in the "XJ Modifications" section.

WTTC Ghost...plenty of talent here and a surprisingly high number of younger members(at least younger then we are) who are very into the classic bikes and who build some extrordinary machines.

Hey everyone. I'm new here as well although I've been trolling this site for a year or so I finally decided to sign up and reap the real benefits. I hope to post up progress on my bike and hear from you all in the future. Hopefully I can bestow whatever limited knowledge I have and gain a lot from all the gear heads on here. Hi guys just found your site
New mamber in the uk and have just bought a 1981 xj550

Bike has been standing for a number of years and looking tired so decided to do a cafe racer project with the bike .

Started stripping the bike at the weekend and she is now down to the frame and engine .

I will try to put some pics on soon and keep you updated .

If any one has any ideas please let me know .

was thinkg of different wheels spoked prefered as my mate rebuilds these
but unsre what fits as want to keep the twin front disk

has any one got a pdf manual for this bike please
wiring is a mess and somone has fitted a suzuki ignitor (cdi) to the bike so not sure on the wiring i would like to see what it should be
