I just bought an 81 maxim 650. When i got it home i put a new battery in and turned it over but there was no fire on any cylinder. I put a set of dyna 3 ohm coils on it and now the left coil is firing the outside cylinders fine but nothing from the right coil. I have power going to the coil but but the plugs wont fire. the plugs wires caps and coils are all new and ive even switched the wires around and still nothing from the right coil. Someone please help.

Check your pickup coils and CDI box.

Are you saying you switched the wires from the coil that fired and put them on the coil that was not firing and still it did not work?

Sorry, no CDI on XJ's. See the troubleshooting writeup I posted above.

I just switched the wires that go in to the right coil around. I did put the wires from the left coil onto the right side and it worked. I've got a pretty good idea now what it is. (hopefully) that troubleshooting writeup helped alot, thanks.

If you swapped wires and got spark on both sets, you need to start looking at your pickup coils. Ohm them out and see what the TCI is getting.
