I rebuilding an 83 750 Maxim, and I took the exhaust off in order to clean it up and replace the header pipes. Just inside the collector where the header pipes come in, there is a cooper sleeve the header pipes fit into. They were corroded so I removed them. I checked online, and boy these puppies are expensive; $30 each. Does anyone know if these are necessary or if there's a alternative solution.

    Thanks in advance.

You need them. They are exhaust manifold gaskets that form the seal from the header pipes to the collector box. If yours are totally trashed you could buy new, or cut a length of aluminum can to the proper width/length, wrap around header, coat with exhaust sealer/paste.
