I'm about as far out as you can get and still claim to be from the "Chicago area"... Basically, you get on I-55 and head south until you get to I-80. Then you head a little further southwest and ask a farmer for directions...

And I've seen a couple of XJ's kicking around these parts (Minooka, Channahon, Yorkville areas). Do they belong to anyone here?

Chicago here. The bike's currently torn apart in my kitchen, but should be road worthy sometime next month.

I'm nearly finished rebuilding my engine, and would like to meet up with some other local XJ owners, even if I have to cage it for the meantime.

I'm in Roger's Park. Am working on my gearbox assembly tomorrow (Monday) and Tuesday during the day. You're free to stop by and let me know what I'm doing wrong.

I thought that was me. Been to Great America? I'm just past that. ;)

There's a Maxim in my neighborhood, but I've never seen the guy out to talk to him. There's a ratted out Seca at one of the farm houses nearby - chatted with him once. Saw another Maxim coming out of moth balls last spring - it had been under a tarp in a garage for any years. Dusty but in great shape. He was on his way to a local shop to get checked out so his son could start riding. I told him about the site, but he didn't seem interested in wrenching on his own.

So, yeah, they're around. There's even a suburban Seca on Craigslist right now.

Someone call a meetup and hopefully I'll be back on the road by then.

Been there. Had a friend in high school who lived in Wadsworth, if you know where that is.

I saw an XS400 "Maxim" at the local Home Depot a couple of weeks ago... I'm starting to see XJ's so often that I'm seriously considering printing up a stack of "business" cards with the XJBikes info on it to leave tucked into the dash or something, just in case finding this site helps someone out.

Of course. Wadsworth is one 'town' over. I run there all the time.

I've thought of the business cards, too, but never followed though.

My bike's finally back up and running. Thank gawd. Still need to do the legal stuff, though (stickers, insurance). I'll be down for any meets in the Chicagoland area.

Oh, and Staples is offering 40 free business cards in this current economic state. I see no reason why you couldn't make some for XJBikes.

I'm in Wauconda, (think north of Barrington and northwest of Palatine) but travel all over the area. Don't think I'll be up for a while though, MAN those Seca's have a lot of parts! Mine's in pieces all over my garage STILL! Thanks to XJ 4 ever and some other sources I'm slowly putting my parts inventory together to get it going. I have a neighbor that has a Vision? and another neighbor with an XS1100. No XJ's though. There is one for sale in Bolingbrook for $650 on Ebay and Craigslist that I looked at last weekend though...

Just got a garage in Edgewater. Will be moving in August 1st. Anyone who wants to can drop by to wrench around. Once I get my bike to a trustworthy state, lets plan an XJ ride.

oh man I guess I've been riding mine around too much. I just had a spark plug pop out on me while stopped at a stop light. If you or anyone you know could lend a hand I would really appreciate it. Here's a link to what I've already posted.

I'm in Yorkville, 82XJ. I like the idea of business cards. vistaprint.com does them for freebo. That would be a cool way of getting the info out on the website as it's helped me out a TON!!!

I'm busy most of this weekend but possibly be available after 3 pm sunday if anyone close by wants to ride. I gotta get her cleaned up

I've put around 6K miles on it so far this summer and if this weather keeps up that number will continue to rise!

Hey, I just joined the forums/biking culture. My bike is currently in the process of being put in 'safe' riding contition. I've also got the whole tags+stickers I've gotta take care of, But I'd love to tag along with you guys (though, most likely, not until next season) I live in the northern burbs (Glenview, anyone?), but I do frequent Chicago often (work and parties)

Hopefully I'll be able to ride with you guys before the season is 100% over :p

Just got my bike friday. I'm in Bensenville. Usually no one knows where that's at so I either just say Elmhurst or the town right next to O'hare airport. Down to ride for just a little longer if there are any nice days. What are some things that need to be done to "winterize" a bike

I bought that one from Bolingbrook last year, not a bad buy at all. Rode it until late in the season and over the winter it went from

I visit bikerornot.com (and ignore the eventual sex spam) and look for and sign up for local/semi local rides and events.

Such as the IronHorse Rockin the Midwest @BON Party USA 2011 in Sabula, Ia-Savanna, IL 52070 the weekend of June 2nd.

    http://www.bikerornot.com/event/45742

I'm hoping to go. Not sure about lodging/camping though ;(

Chicago here, working in the NW Burbs. The XJ's currently awaiting some surgery, tho. :( Been riding the VFR this year. Still, always up for a ride if the weather and schedule allows.

I'll make it out to the Full Moon on a Sunday this year. Need to get the Seca up first, obviously. Been meaning to check the place out, a common stop on the sport-touring forums as well.

Need to sort out a rattle on the Seca, but I'm riding down to Mods v Rockers tomorrow on my WR250R from the northern 'Burbs. http://www.meetup.com/COMPoST/events/17282237/

I know it's last minute, but figured I'd throw it out there. And I'm usually down for Full Moon, too - it's about 15 minutes away.

I'm out in Montgomery, work (currently) evergreen park and frequent (every weekend) west Chicago. I have 2 buddies with XJ's in Winfield and carol stream. We would all love to hook up for a ride. Saturdays would work better. I will be out of town this coming Memorial Day weekend.
