Just bought a '82 750 SECA today. I've found great pleasure in getting older bikes back on the road and it's my latest project. With no manual for the SECA I'll probably have a lot of questions.

I'm 58 and have ridden on and off since my late teens.

I hope I will be able to offer something positive to this forum at some point.

    Welcome aboard!
I suggest getting a Clymer, Haynes or some kind of shop manual before attempting to tear into the Seca. They're an interesting bike to work on, but armed with the manual, just makes it alot easier. Once you get everything running right, they are a fun bike to ride.

Thanks for the welcome(s). I probably do need to be on the lookout for a manual.

I'm curious if anyone else's 750 SECA uses the engine number as the VIN (8 or 9 numbers/letters total)? The last 6 digets of the chassis number match the last 6 of the engine, but the first series of numbers/letters differs. Probably a non-issue, but still curious how it got that way. No indication of it being a salvage title or anything.

    Welcome Lynn.
Nice to see someone older than me on the forum! 8O
Also, it looks like another bike is going to be brought back to life instead of going to a bone yard.
Don't know if you've been lurking for a while, but if you come across something in a manual that doesn't seem to jive then come here, apparently some/most of the manuals do have misprints and the great guys here have (through experience) solved those issues and show you the right way to do it. 8)
So welcome to the forum, looking forward to seeing (we like pictures) and hearing about the progress on the build. :D

Cheers from another older...I mean mature forum member.

I've slowly been checking things off my "to do list" on the bike. Still have a few more to go until I'm ready to test ride. I did get the bike running today without much drama. I went through the carbs and found a few problems that would have kept it from ever running right without the cleaning. Bench sync seems to have it going pretty good, but I guess I need to build the YICS tool and do a vacuum sync now with my guages. It has a bit of hesitation off idle and the RPMs "hang" a bit after revving the engine. I'm thinking they're close, but no cigar. I didn't really have the engine warmed up either though. Total run time was probably 30 seconds but it did idle with the "choke" off. Other opinions?

Still want to pull the back wheel to check brakes. I'm guessing it also has drive splines like a Gold Wing or BMW coming out of the final drive? I'm working without a manual but refer to Bike Bandit's website and exploded views of various items when I have questions. I think I'll go look that up now.......

Anyway, the bike sounded pretty good considering it had been inactive for about 3 years.

Thanks for having such a helpful forum. I've referred to it a lot!

    Lynn
