    What "pulse generator" are you talking about? The ignition pickups? The TCI? The unit in the speedometer that sends distance information to the turn signal canceller? Something else?

    I would guess he means the pickups I know on mu brothers honda book they call their counterpart pulse generators.

    what kind of info are you looking for on them jace

    "the round barrel thing under the carbs" is either the generator or the starter, depending on how you define "under."

    OK. Sounds like you're talking about the alternator.

    Shotgunning, here's what I know about it:

    It was made by Hitachi
    It's rated 19A
    It doesn't reach full output until about 3500 RPM
    Rectifier and regulator are external - mounted under the left side cover
    It's not uncommon that people have problems with them due to worn brushes. Brushes are easy and inexpensive to replace.
    Another not uncommon problem is that the contacts in the plug between the alternator and the rectifier/regulator overheat and need to be cleaned and maybe reseated.
    Replacement stators are available for about $120.
    One of the three lines from the alternator is jumpered to the diode block to trigger the headlight relay when the engine is started.
