I need some help please , its now six months since I got this bike of mine and it had this problem of sticky float valves and petcock diaphram which wasn't shutting off automatically, on openning the carburators I came across into carburator # 1 & Carb # 4 ,the # 1 had its stem cracked where the float assy pin stays and in carb #4 one of the stem totally broken and was fixed by using 'Arladite' which was floppy thats how i saw it.
I replaced the float pin on carb.# 3 which was badly worn out and stuck, cleaned the rest and thn used Quick Set Epoxsy (Versachem Corporation product) to fix the broken stem and also filled in the cracked one.
As I was awaiting for the oil fliter and air filter which finally arrived, drained the oil and got out almost 5litres of it ...the rest 1.5litres were gas !.
Then i tried to start the engine and it roared at first crank beautifully ..no complains ...but then I noted that hte petcock autoshut off had problems ,managed to get in a new one from Z1 entrerprise and had to modify a little and it worked ..only to note that the engine wouldn't then roar as it did the previous time and unfortunately it took long time for the petcock to arrive frm NY,with the little gas left in the float chambers whilst awaiting for the petcock kit to arrive, the gas did the job of dissolving the epoxsy.
Now I am standarded with the carb problems..i just missed to get a very nice set on e-bay :(.
Now what do i do ? Is there any other good brand of gas resistant epoxsy that I can use to fix the stems? Which other type of carburators(mikuni and keihin) can fit in this model ? This XJ750A is a japanese domestic model but elsewhere its known as XJ750R.
At present I am in touch with Dan Parker of Dan & art motorcycles http://www.artandmotorcycles.com/servlet/StoreFront and whats to know if those other brands that i mentioned above does fit in this model as he might be having them in stock.
    TY

What a pickle your in Ty, have you looked into having someone TIG the stem and re-machine it? The carb body would have to be removed from the assembly and boiled out in order to prevent the part from becoming a bomb from the fuel trapped in the porosity of the aluminum. Any skilled TIG welder should be able to take care of you. Of course the cost may just exceed purchasing a used set of carb bodies from someone online. Have you checked with Chacal? He has a full set of bodies available.

I think the best thing to do is get a set of replacement Carb Body's and build yourself a set that will be reliable and perform well.

I think there's just what you need, floating around, somewhere. Just stripped bodies with good butterfly's and no damage to the float hinge posts.

Hey Ty, I do have some good carb bodies off a 650 or a 750....bare bodies, no seals, no jets, no butterly valves, just bare and raw and without any cracked float pin legs or stripped threads anywhere. Are the 650 and 750 bodies the same? I assume they are, both HSC32's. Maybe Robert or Rick can chime in and give an opinion? I really wouldn't know much about the Japanese models and what carbs they used........

And yes, I can ship to New Zealand, figure about $27 for slow-boat (4-6 weeks delivery time) and $44 for Airmail (3-5 days delivery time) for two carb bodies. Carb bodies are $25 each, used, need to be carb-dipped & cleaned, bare of any parts/seals/etc.. Check and see if you need any bowls or other parts because they'll ride for "free" with a carb body.

They are the same body, I've swapped between my Seca and Maxim with just a jet change on a few occasions when I was feeling lazy. Hope this is the ticket for you Ty.

    Thanks Robert ,Rick and Chacal.
Chacal ...I am not in Newzealand but in Tanzania,East Africa. How much would it be to Dar -es salaam, Tanzania by airmail? Suppose if i needed the jets( for those two carburators) and the set of seals for all four carburators how much would it cost?

    Knight.

Hi Knight......okay, I'll check postage to Tanzania, sorry about the whole New Zealand thing (what could I have been thinking??). Also, can you tell me what Size your jets are? I don't have that info on your model. Then I can check to see if I have them.......also, let me know which jets.....main, pilot, air, etc?

By set of seals, I suppose you mean the following seals:

    Idle mixture screw o-rings (4)
    Throttle shaft seals (8)
    Fuel/vent pipe o-rings (6)

Although you didn't mention it, I'd like to recommend that you get the idle mixture screw stainless steel washers also.

And, if there's anything else that you need over here state-side for the carb rebuilds---like float bowl gaskets or float needles, etc.....let me know as they would also (basically) ride for free with the carb bodies. I'll try to get you a good price on anything that I have to buy new that I don't have in stock used.
