Hey, just wanted to give everyone a heads up on this... there was an ad in our local paper for a free '88 Honda GL1500. (not a goldwing fan, but I know some people are, and was gonna part out what was good for cash). emailed the guy back and forth for a bit... son was killed (not on the bike!) + wants rid of the bike. Was actually titled + inspected just wants rid of it. Later turns out that the guy isn't quite local (about 4 hours drive), but his son was fairly local... Well, still the bike's in good condition, and even with a long trip, it would still be profitable, so I agreed to take it.... Then, guess what??? the guy is being transferred and needs to move to British Columbia immediately... and the bike is in California, so why don't I give him $1300 to have him ship it from CA to my house... as now there's no other way for me to get my "free" bike...

Anyway, just wanted to put out the warning!

That's a modification on an old trick, the "Nigerian Prince". Though to try and pull it with a bike instead of a check, interesting twist. I'm sure someone here will appreciate the warning.

Well... the original add made it sound like like it was something sitting in a garage for 20 years... and just wanted it gone. What struck me as unusual.... was that this was over the course of a couple weeks.... this dude put EFFORT into this!

In a couple weeks he could have actually worked and made $1,300.

Scammers are a special, special breed.

Nothing is ever free. I've actualy seen a whole bus load of those "MF's" pull into portsmouth NH and hit every little shop. 25 or 30 of them in a little store I wounder what was swiped. It's a scam.

I'm in California. Tell him you have a friend out here and that I'll pick it up. Just to F*ck with him a little.

Had a similar thing happen last year while trying to sell a truck. This 'gal' played 'em all by the end when I told her not to contact me again. She was buyin' it for her dear old dad, she was in the service, the transport service she wanted to use would only take cash up front, so if I Western Unioned her the whole amount for the shipping, she'd send it right back as soon as she got the truck! Anyone get the license of that turnip truck?

True, but he's not just working one scam at a time. He's got dozens, if not hundreds, of these scams going at any given time. On top of that, he's not in a place where you can make that kind of money by working. He's in a third world country somewhere, where if he hits even a couple of suckers per year, he's living like a king.

A person in the military with money issues, should have been a big red flag. You want living like a king, try being 18 in 2004 and making $1,200 a month with no bills. I got my medical discharge the same day as another guy, both of us about 1.5 years in, he bought a new "crotch rocket" in cash and rode it away.
