VIN# rubbed off

    Just got my 1982 seca 750 and my VIN is rubbed off , can the dealership tell me what it was by the stamped # on my frame?

    how does it "rub" off? it's stamped in. now granted it's a 750R so it's got years of spilled brake fluid on it, the paint is flaked, the steel is rusted and the stamped alphanumerics are filled with that mixture but uh... so?
    you mean as in someone ground them off?

    All the cables rubbed the sticker off the frame on the left side of the neck

    Go to the thread that is on the link posted earlier, and it will tell you how to translate the short code (on the right side of the steering headpipe) to the full 17-position VIN needed by the DMV, etc.

    The shorty VIN is stamped on the right side of the neck or use the shorty VIN on top of the crankcase above the clutch cover and look in the link above and you'll be able to decode the VIN#

    Not sure where you live so don't know if the DMV will take the short VIN from the motor. Was there no title?

    I life in Maine an we do not need titles after 15 years old and the DMV will need the full VIN#

    That's what he was trying to explain. In chacal's thread (that he posted the link to) is the "formula" for turning your "shorty" VIN into the full 17-digit masterpiece.

    My kid likes to do them as a math exercise.
