hello everyone, this is my first post.
although, I am building a new bike later this year or next, I want to add a kicker to my 82xj650j.

does anyone know of a conversion kit or could I take the assembly from another bike that had the same motor and trans? bassically does anyone know of a cheap/fairly easy way to make it kick/electric start?

thanks, I was thinking that a kit may exist somewhere due to the fact that the same motor was in other models at the time, but I don't mine boring holes into either to make it fit.

Maybe I shouldn't do any mods, it's a pretty well kept bike for it's age, it had 18000 when I got it this summer. I rode it all summer though, now it's up to 23k. The guy I bought it from had sellers remorse the day after he sold it, I got it for $350 and the only thing missing was the windsheild, and the tank was rusted but I got it lined for 70 dolars.

but if I make a good modification it shouldn't hurt the value too much.

I'm not sure if I want to keep it, I plan on building a softail that I can go cross country with and just travel until I get sick of it. I figured I could make money on the road playing music or whatever, day labor, you find a way. but those questions are not for this fourum.

The simple answer is no, there is no kit you can buy to just bolt on.

Yamaha went away from kickstarting the big fours about 1980. Some of the triples and two pots had them but casing design was totally different.

Not saying it can't be done but IMO the cost and effort in the re-engineering involved would not be worth it.

My 78 XS1100 has both electric and kick, and while it is not too hard to kick it, it hurts like hell when it kicks back!

well I'll probably just sell the bike then at the end of the summer when I build my new one, if anyone wants it and lives near northwest wisconsin or wants to pick it up, you're welcome to make an offer. Otherwise I'll just list it in the paper on on carsoup or something.

I'm about 240 mi from appelton in Rice Lake. I'll try to find a camera to post some pics, bikes in pretty good shape, I was out riding last week and the seal broke on the hypoid but other than that it's been fine, and I just changed the oil. (in the engine not the shaft).

The only problem I see with it is that the kid that used to live below me backed into my bike like and idiot and the jig holding the highway bar is visibly cracked, but it rides fine.

it's only got 19.5K on it original, the gas tank has been lined and carbs cleaned last summer. It's also got some cheapie saddle bags on it.

I was thinking about 1,500 for it, but any offer is welcome. (I need to finance my new shovelhead, that's going to be a project.)
