And this one may help if you need to troubleshoot the ignition circuits: http://www.xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic ... uctor.html

First thing I'd check though is the fuse box itself. If it's the original one, there's a good chance that's your problem. The original fuse clips get very brittle and lose their ability to hold the fuses tightly. They also corrode and that corrosion causes a high resistance point where the clip touches the fuse.

FWIW, when you turn the key on, this connects Red to Brown. Red being constant power from the battery, through the Main fuse, Brown being switched power that goes back to the fuse box. From there 12V goes to the Red/White wires through the Ignition fuse. The Red/White is what provides power to the safety circuit, then to the starter solenoid and ignition.

Check all those points with a meter (black problem to chassis, red probe at test point) - before and after the Main fuse, at the Brown wire, before and after the Ignition fuse, to see where you're losing voltage.

hmm, best you can do is disconnect pull the loom off bike and clean the wires, look for open wires, clean that up and replace the loom back on bike and refit and hook up the connections. i have found that if you take it all apart and put back on you tend to hook up something that wasn't before plus you get to learn what condition of your wiring is in. good luck man and would not hurt to clean up contact points aswell.
