    Hello
I have been having problems with my carbs overflowing after I run the dry to remove them. When I reinstall them they sometimes overflow.
I have replaced the floats and seats and needles last year with new ones.
I have the floats set rite and even polished the bowels and trimmed the flash off the new floats. This only seems to happen when I RUN the carbs dry before taking them off the bike to work on them. It just happen to me this morning after changing the main fuel jets. I did not do anything else to it.
I just put the carbs on yesterday and I had no problem with overflow.

I even tried to tap the carbs with a 2lb sledge and then let it sit for a few minutes and went back to it. It started up sounded good started to leak just a little bit a few drops out the air box. I shut it off and then it started to flow out the air box line. I just but the petcock on off and came in to wright this.
I had the same issue the first time I started the bike after the winter when the bowls were empty. Like I said I did polish bowels and check the clearance between the floats and bowls. What am I missing?

I now have to change the oil again because of overflow. This will be my 3 time because of this.

    Thanks
    thanks

How did you set the floats? Sounds like they aren't set right or a stuck needle.

did you try tapping each bowl while it was running.. sometimes they vibrate and get hung up on burs inside the brass fitting win the carbs.. mine every i run carbs dry and then put fuel to them they hang up and flood so i just have to tap the bowls and it stops.. could also check to make sure there is not debris in and around the needle valve; unless you still have the lil screens attached to your carbs or good fuel line filter.

I found the problem. The after market floats do not have a recessed bottom and they are hitting the pilot jet tube. I had to push the brass sleeve inside the float hinge to the left to make a stop so the float would not hang.
This seem to work..... time will tell.

    Thanks for your time

That is a problem you can encounter with aftermarket Floats.

If the Wire on the Float Pin is not a Box; and just a single Wire, ... the geometry can be off.

You can do as you did and bend the Float Foundation.

Sometimes just reversing what side the Wire's on helps.

What you should do is DRESS all the Floats.

Get a piece of 2500 Finishing Paper and roll a tight barrel,
Twist it in the Float Seat and Polish the Inside Diameter.
After 6 or 8 Revolutions, ... Pull the Roll out and snip-off the used end flush before you move-on to the next.

Addendum to my earlier Post regarding Polishing the Aftermarket Floats.

    Polish New Float Seats.
No matter what kind of box or bag they come in.
You either Polish the Float for the Manufacturer, or Finish the Float better than the Original.

If you want to go nuts and do some Race Prep on the Floats; do 'em a couple of times using WD-40 as a wetting agent.

The work is to be done "By Hand"
Avoid the tragedy of bumping a Pillar and Breaking it off.
