About two weeks ago some friends and I took a ride from West Point, Va to Mattews, Va. On our way down I believe on Va-17 a guy in a SUV holds a plastic soda bottle out the window and lets it go. Knowing full well three guys on motorcycles are behind him. The bottle got caught in the wind and landed on the side of the road away from us. About ten min later he does it again, this time the bottle hit the leader. The leader has been riding for many years and didn't panic or anything he just kept going. A empty plastic soda bottle isn't much on a helmet.

Anyway, we were all flabbergasted at this person's actions and what he was teaching the small childeren in the SUV with him.

Idiot. I can't say I'd have kept my cool after being hit by a bottle.

You didn't have a wrench handy to "let go of"? That would have taught the kids a good lesson.

No, we were angry but didn't result to violence or even saying anything. This would have been the type of fool to shoot one of us for saying something and in VA a carry/conceal permit is pretty easy to get. Background check, 50.00 and take a safety course, pass the test. Though the second rider is a little more of a hot head if he'd been leading he would have done something rash. I did memorize his plate and at the next stop I called the police but I think anything came of it...

    What a dope. License REVOKED.

Keep a handful of pennies handy, then zip in front of him and throw them in the air

Ah well, I guess that'd make you no better than the bottle chucker. Keeping calm was the best thing to do. Justice will catch up with him sooner than later.

Keeping a cool head was probably in your best interest, although hard to do sometimes. But when you think about it rationally, you and your bike way several hundred pounds combined, an ass**le in an SUV probably comes in at a several THOUSAND pounds. In an Interstate road rage incident guess who wins?
You did right, get off the road and call the "Fuzz" (showing my age) report the incident and what will be, will be. At least you are still here to tell us about what happened.
    Ride safe.
On the other hand, you could have follwed him til he had to stop, then gave him a verbal dressing down in front of his kids, which would have embarrassed the hell out of him, and then if he wanted to step it up up a notch, then give him a shit kicking. But that would only make "Motorcyclist" look bad in front of his kids.

I think I'm pretty laid back in general, but something like that could have really set me off. I'm glad you kept your cool and didn't do anything rash. It's sad though when people do stupid stuff and don't consider the influence they're having on their kids.

    I don't condone retaliation but... I hear that golf balls will do a number on a windshield at 110 :S :S :S

If you can get a look at the driver and be able to identify him/her later, take the license number and give it to the local constabulary. They can press charges as seems fit. Minimum would be littering and if they really wanted to make an issue who knows what they can dream up in charges. I have been able to have several people visited by a uniform. In Ontario, three complaints against a plate number warrants a visit at the door.
