Can I cut the forks down a bit from the top... I would like to take about 2 to 3 inches off... but the is a plug or plate about an in down into the pipe...

Can that be removed or pushed down farther?

    Thanx

    David

That "plug" is the top plug in the forks; no, it can't be moved further down nor can the top of the tubes just be lopped off.

That cap is what seals the fork tube and more importantly acts as the upper stop for the spring; it is held in by a circlip. The tubes taper on the inside as you go further down, they're not symmetrical. You can't just cut them off.

If you want to lower the front end, you CAN slide the tubes up in the triple clamps a bit; too much and you'll drastically "quicken" the steering (by reducing the rake.)

From the sound of things, if you want to shorten the front end that much, you'll need to find a set of shorter tubes.

    Ahh...

Thanx for the info... I didn't want to drop it to much... I have the tubes slid up a little bit... Perhaps I will get a set of clamp on handlebars... so I can get that little extra I am looking for...

The frame has been hardtailed and lowered just a bit... so the angle is off just a bit...

    Peace

I disassembled my forks, cut 1.5 inches out of the spacer at the top of each fork, then added a 2 inch spacer on the dampener rod. Lowered the front end 2 inches and didn't affect handling. I also lowered the rear 2 inches.

    Hey...

Thanx for the input guys but i came up with another solution to achieve the stance I was going for...

I have modded the rear wheel from my parts bike so that it mounts in the front fork... and I have slide the fork up through the triple tree about an inch...

So now the front and back match in tire size and height... looks pretty low and mean... =)

    Peace

    David
