I saw a post a couple of days ago about rear brake shoe delamination, is there a way to take a look without pulling the rear wheel assy.?

You have to at least partially pull the rear axle to see the brakes at all. Of course at that point you might as well pull it completely and check your bearings and all while you are there.

    In a word, nope.

Gotta either pull the wheel or wait till it locks up going down the road.

I always choose to do the one that will cause less damage to my body.

Shoes do not cost much so just go do it to be safe. It is easy. 20 minutes and brake shoes is all you need.

New Brake Shoes on the Rear are nice to have when you need to lose speed in a hurry.
Providing the Axle pops right out without a fight; a Rear Brake "Full Monte" takes less than two hours.

When you Pull the Rear Brake Assy ... Re-Hab the Brake Drum.
A DREMEL Tool will save you a lot of elbow grease.

Use a Med. Sanding Drum and Sand-off the Rust Ridge.
Just run the Drum around and around the Ridge until the Ridge is gone and the Drum shines.

De-Glaze the surface of the Brake Drum.
A Fine Drum and Medium Speed.
Slanted passes over the whole surface.
    Very light.
    Just "Break the glaze"
Left to right ... one pass.
Right to left ... second pass.

    Give it a feather-light touch.
    Just break the glaze.

Chamfer the New Pads so they dont squeal.

Clean and Lube the Shoe Spreading Cam-shaft.
Pack the Hour-glass center with Synthetic Waterproof Grease.

Before you button-up the job, ...
Put the Axle in a Vice and "Shoe-shine" it down to finished bare metal with strips of finishing papers.

Smear AntiSeize Compound all over it before you reinstall the Axle.
