This is the 1981 xj650 bobber I just purchased. Its all painted flat black. Its suppossedly bored out to almost 900cc, but I don't think that is physically possible. I know that it moves and I didn't have any trouble keeping up with a big Harley. I didn't do the mods, but its nice to start with a bike thats pretty much the way I want it and that had less than 500 miles on the rebuilt engine.

Look's nice and welcome to the site. You'll have to consider that a Harleys strong point is torque and is slower off the line, but will catch you a little later. These XJ's are quick and will get a second boost around 7k rpms that seems to come from nowhere. I smoked a 1200 Sporty with my 700, but my brothers 1350 Dyna will catch and pass me.

I just found out by the serial numbers that it is actually a Midnight Maxim. (And one of the first 150 produced).

It came with the bike when I bought it. I think if this is a midnight maxim, it should be black. It is the yamaha speedo out of the '81 maxim control cluster. All of the other parts in the cluster are removed.
