So earlier today, I decided to apply a little stoner degreaser to the gas cap to clean it up (surface rust from the PO). After riding about 12 miles, I went to fill up, and the lock was seized up. After getting home (with very little gas), I sprayed some lubricant in the lock, was able to spin the lock, but the pins on the sides wouldn't release. Long story short, we pried the cap out of the tank, and lost half the lock in the tank itself. Now there is very little fuel in the tank, and I plan to remove it and completely clean it out in the next couple days (first time for me, all tips are appreciated). The other problem I have is, I no longer have a gas cap. The entire assembly is destroyed and no longer in my possession. Any ideas on where to get a replacement one, and how to install it?

Thanks chacal! I'm actually looking for some type of aftermarket gas cap. Something inexpensive, and easy, and preferably without a lock (don't wanna have to go through all that again)

You won't find a direct, bolt-on replacement aftermarket part.

One last question before I give in and get the OEM gas cap...
I found a couple gas caps for a 750 virago (since the virago is a cruiser style, I seem to find WAAAAAY more parts/accessories online than for a maxim, and the fact that they made a lot more of them lol). Here is one I found on eBay:

It looks almost exactly the same, except for the keys look a little different. I know you said that there isn't a direct aftermarket replacement fitz, but what about an aftermarket replacement for a different model, that just might happen to be the same part I'm looking for?? What do you guys think???

A lot of gas caps will interchange. Just check part #'s on a Yamaha parts site.
