I got a 1993 XJ600 Seca II a week ago from Ohio. I was told to oil the chain every 500 miles, well now's the time. The problem is the bike has no center stand, so what am i supposed to do to be able to oil the chain? Thanks.

Oil what you can see then wheel the bike 1 foot forward and lube again. Keep doing until the whole chain is done.

I'd use a spray type suitable fo o ring chains. If you use motor oil (recomended by Yamaha) it will fling off!

Any thoughts on the bicycle chain dry lube. Teflon based, but doesn't attract dirt and grime. Not sure how it will hold up on a motorcycle chain.

    I prefer PJ1 Blue Label.

    haha, What stand? j/k

Thanks for the link, I've seen those before....

Is it like the generic dirtbike stands? or are they more purpose built for street bikes?

Do you have a Cycle Gear near you? Sometimes they have them on sale, and you won't have to pay for shipping.

    I have this one:

    http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=&L ... STE_URRS05

It was on sale for $60. I'm sure you can find cheaper, but it was cheaper than what I was expecting to pay, so I went for it.

I do, I am planning on going over to it when my tire's arrive to get them mounted. Anybody got the portable mount thing from harbor freight? I'm thinking of getting one of those and just getting it balanced afterwards but being my first set, I might let them do it and learn on my second set.... haha

Just picked up a goldwing for free last night too if anyone needs parts I might be parting it out if I can't get it to crank over. Came with a trailer for 350 bucks. I just wanted the trailer in case I find another XJ parts bike. I'll post some pics if/when it stops raining....

I recommend getting the tires professionally mounted and balanced especially if you will be doing much highway work.

Remember now, Indy used to be paved in bricks, and they did 100+.

Not saying I want that and definently am going to get mine professionally done, was just asking opinions on the portable tire mounter.

Both the AdvRider forums and WebBikeWorld praised the DuPont Teflon Multi-Use Chain Lube but WebBikeWorld named Original Bike Spirits brand chain lube #1 in 2010 (DuPont Teflon came in 2nd). BTW - the DuPont product only needs re-done every 12K miles or so.

I bought a couple inexpensive rollers and made a stand for doing chain maintenance. I have a Tutoro chain oiler that I will be installing in the spring. I'll post the results when I start riding in the spring.

Dam Ranger, that's brilliant, missed this originally, was just doing a search top see what everyone was using for chain lube.

PJ1 Blue Label. Really doesn't fly off, works fine on "standard" chains, even though PJ1 claims that's what Black Label is for. (Black Label does fly off.)

That's what I've been using, getting some fling (probably didn't clean off enough excess)..
and it seems to be attract a lot of road crap (again could be due to not cleaning enough excess)
