I need to know what size is the o-ring I need to get when I do a oil change and what kind should I buy and where I cant find any info on the o-ring in repair manual? The guy who had the bike before did not use a o-ring . He must of used some kind of caulk to seal the drip because it was all over the out side of the filter housing, I dont want to take the route to seal the leak the o-ring should do the trick right ? 1982 maxim 650 Thanks for any help or insight

Buy a new oil fter, it will come with the o-rings you need. I get mine at the autoparts store for 5 $ each.

Not all of them, but the FRAM CH6003 does. Commonly available, and it comes with a new o-ring for the bolt too.

+1 The WIX filter only comes with the o-ring for the housing. Had to make a trip to the hardware to get the one for the bolt.

Of course, as usually happens, the auto parts had the Fram in two days later.

Be careful about using house-grade parts like o-rings in an application like this. Better the auto parts for "automotive" grade stuff; faucet o-rings can melt at the temps a motorcycle engine hits.

I bought a new oil filter and it did not come with a new o-ring for the housing. Will I be alright if I go to autozone and just match a o-ring to size of the oil filter housing and just use that any ideas or suggestions thanks...

last year i got an ö"ring for the oil filter housing,it cost $6 (o ring only) from the local yamaha dealer (filter $9 )and that was after a discount and they wonder why so many people buy parts online, only talking to an Austpost contractor and he said it was amazing how many of his packages were motorcycle bits and pieces.

I think the least expensive way to get the o-ring is to buy the Fram filter for $5. (I think they have it at Auto Zone. I have been to so many auto parts stores recently, I 'm not sure thats the name of the one that had it). This kind of annoys because I needed this same o-ring for my oil cooler plate. I am going to have a collection of extra oil filters.
