Its more of a comedy video but they were real salesmen.

At the beginning you couldn't see me trying to start it. I hit the start button twice. Once with no choke and once with choke for about 2 seconds each.
The son rolls up and interrogates me telling me I flooded it. LOL!!!!

Hi Bill, Interesting... lol. By the way, It looks like it was the 700, exactly the same as mine, I belive there are slight differances between the 700 and the 750. The fuse box on that baby is under the dash, where the neutral and turn signal indicaters are.

Another interesting thing for you too, My bikes headlights come on and stay on once the ignition is turned on even if the engine isn't running, that's one of the slight differances between the 700 and 750, the 750 has the headlight relay so the headlight doesn't come on until the engine is running and the 700 doesn't, and it's normal for them for the headlight to cme on once the ignition is turned on.

    Pete

I've been there before BillB. Took a lot of 100 mile trips for an "awesome, totally running bike!" only to arrive to a basket case and a whole lot of excuses and stories.

It's them thar new spark plugs. Should never use new spark plugs in an old motorcycle.

While he's takin' the wrong fender off he should take the leaking forks off too.

I can believe he wanted $1800. You can believe I talked him down to his bottom dollar $1500 over the phone.
I CAN NOT believe I offered him $700.

How bad was it? The only things I got to see clearly were the engine, airbox, and carbs, and they all looked pretty clean. I wouldn't be surprised if the black on the carbs was factory. Some bikes, like my GPz, did come with factory black painted carbs, and it really was just a rattle can job over the entire carbs.

Didn't the Midnight Maxims have black carbs?

    It probably ran... once.
The tank was beat to hell, wrong front fender, seat needed recovered, needed tires, needed painted and all around dirty with paint flecking off the motor.
I still would have given him the $700.

Yes, but............those carbs (Hitachi HSC32's) won't fit easily (or, at all) on the airhead XJ700's, which used the HSC33's.
