Been wanting to get another bike and told myself that I'll start looking around some. Figured that when my Tax Refund arrived I'd have a start on a bike fund.
Thursday nite the refund hits the bank account and Friday morn I looked on Craigslist and saw an ad for an XJ650 Turbo Seca. I called right away and scored on the deal!
$400 later I'm the new owner. It needs some serious cosmetic work, and a starter rebuild, but with 17K miles and most all the correct parts, who am I to complain?
Kinda ugly and rainy around here now, so i can get a start on making this sweet classic turbo a head turner come spring.
Just joined up for the great info and camaraderie from fellow XJ enthusiasts.
I'm a former Honda owner - I bought a brand new 1982 900F Super Sport back in 1984. I enjoyed that ride for many years and sold it about a 10 years ago for much more than I paid for it. I've been missing riding for some time, so I'm really lookin' forward to putting some miles on this one.
I'm sure I'll be hangin' out here quite a bit while I sort this techno wonder out.

    Dan

Sounds like you scored a pretty good deal. Welcome to the site. You are in the right place for info. Check out the search function for the starter rebuild and cosmetics. Lots of info. Hope you have a set of reading glasses. Again, Welcome to the zoo.

yeah man good luck with it.

I just cleaned up my starter and measured the brushes. I got lucky, it looks really good inside, just need new o-rings for the body of it. I'll probably go to the local hardware store and get a couple as the ones on mine were pinched and cracked.

Welcome XJTurboDan 8). Feel free to post some pics in your gallery. This way we can have a look at that ride. I wish I could find a $400 bike that's running 8O

I appreciate the warm welcome, guys. I went to the DMV with the P.O. today and could see the fading passion and rising regret in his eyes. He just bought a new house, car and has a new baby in the family. Gee, I wonder why he wanted to get rid of this great outlet for frustrations??
I on the other hand am ready for a new adventure! I have a friend who has heard my old stories but has never ridden and I want to give him a chance to sample classic sport bikes from back in the day. I've given him the task of helping me put this sweet ride back to stock appearance, but we may just create a little mayhem in the hidden bits. P.O. says it has the boost dialed up, we will see about that.
Tomorrow morn I'm having it delivered to my shop. We will make room for it right next to the garage door so we can take it out on a moments notice. Around the great Pacific N.W. you have to be ready to take advantage of any opening in the weather in the springtime.
I'll shoot some pics tomorrow when the bike arrives and show you what part of my IRS refund bought!
