Hi everybody! I'm 22 and from the Pittsburgh, Pa area...

Just got a 1982 XJ 650 Maxim yesterday and I couldn't be happier, I traded my Yamaha Raptor 350 atv for it. It is my first bike ever and I absolutely LOVE it. I couldn't have asked for a better first bike... I've only been around the neighbor hood across the street (waiting to get insurance), but I can finally say I understand what is meant by "4 wheels moves the body, 2 wheels moves the soul".

I plan on taking a motorcycle safety course ASAP and riding every chance I can. But anyways, I'm happy to have found this site and I'm sure I'll be using its wealth of knowledge in the future.

Wow! Beautiful looking bike. Someone took very nice care of that. Be careful and like Joe Walsh said, "welcome to the club".

Thank you! Yeah I'd say so, it looks, sounds, and runs great for 29 years old and 33,800 miles on it. I was already Yamaha loyal after owning the Raptor, but this XJ put the icing on the cake, its obvious they've made solid machines for longer than I've been alive!

Being careful is my number one priority tho, I've got a pair of Joe Rocket sonic gloves already, a cortech gx air series 2 jacket on the way, pants/boots when I can afford them, and going to pickup a full-faced helmet tomorrow... I probably look a little weird riding around with my ATV helmet and goggles lol (snell and DOT approved).... Just wish I had some friends with bikes to ride with!

Thanks guys! I'll keep him in mind.

Just got back from my first real ride on the streets, rode around for about 2 hours... 8O :) :D :D

So much fun! The bike handles fantastically and is a blast to ride. I'm hooked.

No matter how good it looks, check for rear brake delamination. It could save your life. About 10 min and one new cotter pin (assuming no rusted nuts).

Plenty of post and one real post about this topic. I can't link it on my phone.

I will make it easy for you. The brake delamination post is in my signature.

Good looking bike you have there. Make sure you take the time to check it all out.

Almost anything, and possibly everthing you might want to know.

Looks like a well cared for bike so you might not be in bad shape. But it won't hurt to check and make sure.
