does anybody know what bikes the rear brake cam is interchangeable with?

i'm having a hard time finding one for an xj, but i can find an xs650 one no problem.

i know it's a pretty simple mechanism so i'm hoping they're fairly interchangeable between models

It will depend on which 550 you have, Seca, Maxim, or "World market" which looks like a Seca but would have the same brake as the Maxim. Doubt it's the same as an XS, but you never know.

This is why it's important to put your bike info in your signature, and your basic location in your profile.

So... what're we talkin' 'bout, bike-wise, and where yo' is?

the bike is a seca, and i'm in nova scotia canada..

trying to find anything that will work. i thought i saw somewheres that an xs 650 and a maxim were interchangeable somewheres.. which led me to believe that it could possibly be the same as a seca as well.

    Seca. Whew.

OK, here's the deal. The Seca was "blessed" with a much smaller rear brake than the Maxim; our brake is the same as the "XJ" XS400s, Seca OR Maxim, as long as it's the DOHC XS.

    For a part number, here's the North American fiche: http://www.yamahapartshouse.net/pages/O ... ibrand=YAM

It's pn 4R4-25351-00-00, "CAMSHAFT." It's NOT the same as the 550 Max or the 650, that's a "4H7" part number; and it's for sure different.

Your cheapest and easiest solution would be to find a brake assembly from a 550 Seca, 400 Maxim or 400 Seca on eBay. I got a whole rear wheel assembly for a 400 Max for $10 when I needed a brake drum assembly.

Wanna 400 Maxim wheel? Free for postage?

More than what I can be 100% sure of; but for sure 1981-83 for the 550 Seca; and '82-'83 for the "XJ" XS400s.

Check with chacal (XJ4Ever) and if he doesn't have one I'm pretty sure I know where you can find one NOS. It also looks like it's still available from Yamaha for way too much money.

You don't need the dealership to look up parts, I just posted a link to the fiche.
