I found this on another forum and I think its a great idea to bring over to the XJs.

Alright guys and gals, here we go. Not going to set too many rules, going to try to keep it simple. It is based on your integrity and morals. This is basically to offer up items you have sitting around that may benefit someone else on here.

You place what you have to offer. Does not have to be motorcycle related. You can offer what ever you want, never know what someone may need.

If it is something you are interested in, post in the thread your interest first, then you can pm the owner. So there is no confusion between others on here who wanted it first.

Shipping, that is up to the owner to decide if they want compensation. But as a courtesy, if the item is bulky, it may be considerate for the receiver to offer to pay shipping. But again, up to the owner. On other boards, they requested that if an item will cost more that, say $5 to ship, it would be courteous to offer to pay for shipping. Again, up to the owner.

As part of the spirit, if you take an item, it is requested that you in return, post something up for someone else. This way, we don't have one person coming in and taking everything and giving nothing in return.

As far as requesting items, I would like to stay away from that.

Now the hard part. Noobs!! I will not put a "required" post count number or join date. I know there may be issues with people coming on here and signing up just for free stuff. If the owner doesn't want to do business with a noob, that is their choice. There are some honest noobs here, you can't judge a person just because of post count or join date. Although, sometimes you can. But, that's up to the owner of the item.

You don't have to take an item to offer one up, so if you have stuff laying around, just post it. Good luck and have fun.

If I missed any guidelines or someone thinks I should add something, I will post and update this original post, just pm me and let me know.

Too get this thing off and running I am offering a XJ650 Maxim Petcock. Shipping will be about $5 in the USA.

I've got a set of carbs from the PO that I've never touched. I think there is some issue with them, but if someone wants them they are your for whatever the S&H is.

*****UPDATE CARBS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE (SENT THEM TO INTERESTED PARTY)*******

Bill, I think this is a great idea! Both for people to get rid of unwanted items and for people to get what they need at a great price. Its a win-win for everyone involved. Great idea and I will be I will be the second to put something out there. I have another extra fuse block to upgrade your electrcal system like the one I sent to you. Thanks again for this idea.Larry

I got a tach (slightly sluggish + no back cover) and a boogered dash (speedo metal is bent - but the plastic's good) for an 86 maxim. got some other random stuff too... have to look.

Nice. You should re-title this thread the xjHippie thread. I don't have any extra xj parts yet, but I have barns full of old six wheeler parts and tires. I don't think most are usable. The old owner of my place seemed to take everything that was usable and leave me with all the left overs.

I would love to get my hands on the upgrade parts to replace my old fuses. I have run into troubles with my signals shorting on several occasions. Please, Lost boy, hook me up.

In return, I offer up a standard grab bar and/or a center-stand. Both are in good condition. I believe I have some others lying around....

I've heard others just replaced the fuse box with inline fuses. I was going to mine that way.

I would be grateful for those shims.

Non-XJ goodie. My first bike was a Honda '71 CL350 Scrambler. I still have an extra right side cover that will fit an early 70's CB350/CL350. It is missing the emblem but has the chrome grommet. It's a bit rough, but for free, it might hold someone over until a better one comes along. I can send a pic if anyone wants it.

I'm checking for these tonight: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/p=2 ... tml#279967 My local O'Reilly's supposedly has them.

As for shims, we could start a swap pool (I think that's been discussed long ago - don't know if it ever developed). I'll post up what I've got.

This is a great idea, not to mention a good way to put some of my un-needed parts to good use. So, this is what I have to offer if anyone needs them.

1 good working fuel level sender.
1 petcock didn't leak when pulled.
1 gas cap w/key spray painted and will need cleaned.
1 headlight assy minor surface rust inside slight paint over-spray on exterior.
    1 center stand.
1 tachometer and bucket no grommet.

All pulled from my 81 seca 550 except the tach which is from an xs400.
Probably have more parts laying about.
    I'm in N. Idaho

I just might be willing to run a shim pool....

What do you think would be better.... if I assembled sets of 200-295 so you can determine what shims you need, or just have a pool to trade?

Well we have to consider the few jacka**es out their who may keep some. But I think most people will play nice. Sets might be a little costly to ship as just a shim or two would cost postage stamps. The shim pool would be awesome.

All right, I've got a short list. If you need something let me know.

All parts from 81 Maxim. Your fitment may vary.
Rear fender metal half - painted black hammer finish
    rear fender plastic half
front fender - painted black hammer finish chrome was badly pitted
front wheel - painted black hammer no bearings
rear wheel - painted black hammer no bearings
    taillight - stock
rear turn signals - one cracked lens but they work

If you'd in need of something else ask and i'll look.

I checked valve clearance on my xj650 and after three years of the last owner never checking I only had one valve with 0 clearance.

    I have (3) 265, (2) 270, (1) 275

    I need (4) 255, (1) 250, (1) 260

BTW, the local dealership is charging $26 EACH shim, LOL!
