Hey guys I'm new here and am looking for some help. My friend has a 1985 maxim x he has had since a kid. The intake valves are tight and need adjusted. I pulled the intake camshaft out thinking there would be little thin shims for the adjustment but all it has are the cups. What kind of shim kit do we need? I assume they make different size rotating cups for the adjustments? Where can I get this kit? I tried searching google but wasn't able to come up with much on the maxim X

shims are under the buckets dont get them mixed up with that many valves you will go nuts. You need to measure your shims chacal has them xj4ever vender they are not real cheap and they do not make a kit

thanks man. I went back out and looked and yes I see the little caps now. I first thought they were made on to the cup. Now if I can find a service manual of some kind to make sure I get the timing correct. I marked everything but I want to be sure

Where are you located? A shim kit for this bike might be (IDK) be hard to come by. More than likely, you are going to need shims int eh 175-180 range and they are not easy to come on.

The Max-X is different from Non-X Bikes.
You replace a PAD that fix under the Bucket.

Those Pads are not the same as the Shims that are atop the Buckets on Non-X Bikes.

I just places the Timing Instructions on another Thread this morning.
