    Hey Folks,
I have been thinking about switching to a four into one exhaust in the hope of a slight increase in torque on my xj650rj. Do any of you have any experience with this-- recommendations? What system would you recommend, and will it require a rejet?

    Thanks,

    Rob

I was hoping to see a response to this one, as I have considered the same upgrade for my XJ700. Hopefully someone will post up soon.

A 4-1 will gain you no low end torque maybe a little in the upper rpm range but they do sound nice. The only people i know making a 4-1 for them now is mac unless you change the muffler they really don't sound the best they are more of a replacement exhaust

I gotta agree; the 4-1 will not give you any more low-end anything; it will tend to move everything UP the RPM range instead.

Well I would like to go with a 4-1 later on for cosmetic reasons. Any recommendations? Has anyone installed one they can share videos of? I'd love to hear how it sounds.

As soon as my '82 XJ550J is up and running I plan to post a couple videos. I have a Mac 4-1 that I picked up here on the board. I'd say the bike will be running in a few weeks, hopefully sooner.

So basically 4-1 on our bikes is mostly a minor weight savings, cosmetics and sound difference?

I prefer the dual muffler symmetry but that's just me.

I just put on the mac 4-1 and the headers bottom out on speed bumps n such, i'd like to know if anyone else has ran into this, they seem to hang down farther than the stock headers did. I'll take and post some videos tomorrow by the way.

That's strange as I remember Mac advertising that the exhaust provides better ground clearance.

The 4-1 on my 750 is definitely lower than the 4-2 would be

The headers on the 4-1 come together like this under the bike 88
and on the 4-2 it is like this oooo

with all the pipes being the same diameter.

I think I am becoming less interested in a 4-1. I somehow imagined a little more back pressure bumping up the torque. Best off being happy with what I've got. If I want torque, maybe its a sign to get on the Venture.

I installed my Mac 4-1 today. The bike isn't running yet but I can share a little information. First of all the fit is good, but not great. It took some prying to get the headers in place. Also, the collector sits very close to the oil pan and with the clamp around it, it touches. And the hanger bracket doesn't seem to bolt up anywhere?? I'll have to call Mac but I have a feeling that I'm going to have to make my own bracket.

As far as weight goes, there is an 11.5 lb. weight savings with the Mac. I didn't measure ground clearance but the Mac does seem to sit lower.

    Hey Ledicott96,

Do you have to pull your V&H to drain oil or change filter without hosing down the header with oil?

No the plug can be fully removed with the exhaust on, all so has a removable end can and baffle. Has a great sound with and with out the baffle.
