Very low response to my original posting last Saturday. Would like to
see her go to an Xfan/rider/mechanic, not a smelter.

I should mention that she does have all of her parts, a clear title, and
on top of everything in my original message below, an extra rear wheel/tire.

Thought I'd put it out there one last time. Make an offer.

Well, it has been quite some time since I've posted here on the list.
I've been in lurk mode though, and now, after years of procrastination,
it is time for me to part with my MaximX. Listizens get first dibs, of
    course.

To recap the status of my bike: I purchased the 1985 700 X in 2000 with
only about 5,000 miles on her. She ran extremely well for years,
accumulating around 25,000 miles, but the ignition coils were a constant
problem in wet weather. I eventually gave her an overhaul, replacing
numerous components and seals, and a fresh coat of paint. I did NOT,
however, rebuild the motor/drivetrain. A year or two after that a wrist
pin (or some such) let go and holed the motor at cylinder one. I got an
'86 motor from another previous list member, swapped it out, and it has
never run right since then. I have tried a few things to get her going
to no avail, and I am out of patience and energy to keep trying. So,
time to get her out of the garage.

You can follow the link below my signature to see most of her story in
various photo albums, including my rebuild. The state she is in right
now (replacement motor installed) most closely resembles this photo:

This is a pic of the old holed motor:

In case you missed it above, she is not running right now, and I'm not
sure what it will take to make her go. She is for sale to the highest
bidder. Buyer will be responsible for shipping and/or pickup. Buyer will
get several extras, including the old motor, Colortune, Carbtune II,
custom made spark plug socket, shop service fuel tank, and factory
    service manual.

Don't hesitate to write if you have any questions.

looks nice but 2 far for me to go to get it unless it was extremely cheap. Kind of scary not knowing why it does not run right

It would probably require diagnostics. My bet is that it's something with the carbs or a valve adjustment. Bike looks nice. Not sure what it is with the x's, but it seems that the left side of the engine is the one that goes out more times than not. I have an engine someone obviously didn't listen to and no 2 came throught the base, upper and lower cases, and cracked the upper case all the way back to the rear of the stator! YIKES.
