I have a 81 650 maxim. The rear shocks are adjusted 1 notch from all the way up. I'm 185 lbs, and my wife is 230 lbs. total of 415 lbs. Is this ok on this bike? Also how will having the shocks like that affect the ride when I'm by myself? Thanks.

As I recall the maximum load is close to 500 lbs. With gear you'll probably be getting close.

If I recall I ran the springs on the tightest setting with just me (250lbs). If the thing is hopping when you leave her home you might back them off a notch.

I've got the same bike - I'm 265, wife is about 220 - still have the stock shocks/springs even. Pre-load is set to the maximum.
Solo it's fine, with her on the back I avoid any large bumps because it will bottom out.... But still works.
