So here is the deal....I can't seem to determine if my xj should have a braided wire for the ground. I recently rebuilt the bike from frame up...The problem being is that at the same time my bro was rebuilding a jetski...and there in the middle of both is a braided ground wire. Sitting on the floor begging to go back on one of the machines...but whose? Do xj 750 have a braided ground wire (similiar to those seen on all cars) or do you think it belongs to the ski?

    My guess?
Jetski bonding cable. All cast items on a boat/jetski must be bonded or connected by a ground cable, bolt threads will not work, you'll notice all
outboards and inboards like the jetski use braided bonding cables usualy
at pivot points and through hull connections. Check that jetski.

My Seca has a heavy (like 4 gauge) insulated ground cable. Not a flat braided one.

There is also a rather short (9") braided ground cable connected between one of the from regulator/TCI to chain lock storage box bolt (frame). This cable is used on all XJ650 models (except Turbo), XJ750 Maxim, and XJ1100 models only.

Thanks guys...very helpful. Someone must have changed the cable b/c I do not have one hooked up to motor. Amazing it still runs. I would assume that is the reason my tach is acting crazy
