I started the project. I removed the Maxim triple tree and installed tapered roller bearings and installed the Seca triple tree. The is one difference between the two triple trees. The adjustment bolt for the headlight is different. I have to drill and tap the lower triple tree where the adjustment bolt bracket mounts to the triple tree using the Maxim headlight bracket.

Then rebuild the forks remount evering thing and I should be fine.

Well I took it for a 100+ mile ride through the twisties yesterday and had no problems. I had to use my single disk master cly but it worked. Need to get a dual MC for it. The steering is so easy now with the tapered toller steeeing bearings.

Those look like the original brake lines. If so, they need to be replaced asap.

Might want to upgrade to stainless when you swap out the master.

That's good to know. I'm about to put 750 seca forks and brakes on my 650 maxim, so hopefully it comes out as simple as your swap was.

What kind of exhaust do you have on that? Did they require a custom mounting?

Re: Changing 81 XJ650 Maxim single brake to 82 XJ650 Seca du

I hear there are more problems with the 750 Seca but the 750 Maxim is suppose to be just a tube swap.

With the seca triple trees need changed and I hear the 750 seca has a cable controled master cly.

I have not found any info here or there regarding the maxim to seca swap so I think it is a fly by the seat of your pants swap. Meaning you need to improvise as you go along.

Messing with the front wheel to center it in the brake calipers, I learned that the front wheel can be adjusted left or right to fit center in the forks.

The upper tripple tree is not centered it is a little off center to the right. I pulled the fork that was weeping a little and straight edged the inner tub and it was straight. It rides without drag now, but still the tree seems off center. The fork pulled out and pushed in with ease. no binding.

Well I will look at it some more but any ideas out there it would be nice if you could share with me.

Also the Maxim front fender will not fit on the Seca forks. The fender hits the tire becasue of the new position of the axle to the forks.

What a difference with the wheel centered, the forks rebuilt, and the brakes are outstanding. Much better than the old one. I put on a 82 XJ750 dual master cly and lots more brake
