Can someone please post a few pictures of how the sidestand mounts to the bike frame? I have a 1982 xj650 maxim. I bought a sidestand for it and started to mount it and I cannot find where the stupid thing mounts. I think that a previous owner must have left the original down while riding and it somehow got tore off. I think I know where it goes but there is nothing to bolt it to. Thanks in advance.

There are pictures around on the site, but the xj650 is known to have problems with the kick stand. Mine is that way, and I've heard of lots of others too. I imagine it would be relatively easy to weld a new one on, but you would have to fabricate it, and it's likely that the safety switch had been removed. I just use the center stand and disabled the safety switch so I don't have to find neutral to start it. I'm either on it, or the rear wheel is off the ground.

Thanks. That is kinda what I expected. I have seen alot of pictures of the kickstands but none that actually show the mounting bracket. At least not yet. The safety switch must still be intact because it will not start on the center start unless I hold in the clutch. I am thinking about fabricating up some kind of mounting bracket but do not have the time right now to play with it. I was hoping to just bolt up the stand that I paid for with no extra work. I would really like to not have to use the center stand all the time. Thanks for the post.

Be careful...i'm not sure where it mounts but if you try to disable the safetys while having the kickstand you will either start the bike in gear or take off with the kickstand down. Probably both in the same day, if you have my luck.

I don't have much trouble with the center stand...but I haven't had a kickstand since my bicycle days. I even learned how to put the bike on the centerstand without getting off of it. Of course, I'm 6' tall and not a small dude, so it's pretty easy for me to throw my bike around.
