numb fingers

I'm still kinda new to this whole thing and I was wondering if anyone else has had their fingers go numb on long rides, I wear gloves but they don't make em go numb if I've not been riding. Not sure if its gloves or bike.

You may want to try switching to aftermarket grips to help cut the vibration to your hands. I have progrip gel grips and get near 0 vibration through them. You may also want to consider a cruise control so you can flex your throttle hand every once in a while. I use the nep by sound off recreational who also makes the vista cruise (another good choice) and love it. It is wicked easy to set up and use.

 

Sounds to me like you need a valve adjustment and carb sync. The bike should be dead smooth above 5K rpm.

That being said, the stock grips couldn't have been more disagreeable if they tried. There are hundreds of options available on the aftermarket. Do a forum search on "new grips" and check out the discussion and suggestions. We all have different preferences.

 

Generally it's either vibration or riding position that makes fingers go numb...if you have stock handlebars on either of your bikes then it's not position. Do you notice if it's worse with the virago? V twins are generally pretty shaky. If it's your maxim...when was the last time you did a sync? Out of sync will make it vibrate a bit more too.

The only time my fingers went numb was on a brand new Ducati Monster, it was due to a bit of vibration and the riding position that put a good amount of weight on my hands.

 

I think some vibration is coming from my rear tire. its got a little flat spot on it, not sure why, I might replace it soon, just for safety sake
