Ok here is a short video of my bike. I shut it off about 30 minutes before I shot it. It's about 70 out tonight. As you'll see it was a little stubborn to start. I hear clicking sounds from the engine and I'm not sure if it's normal. Also not sure if I have the right free play on my clutch and brake. I'd love some feedback on this. It's probably all normal and fine. Bike runs great. Just gets a little hard to start some days. Sorry about the poor lighting. Thank you in advance.

I'm by no means an expert by any means, but that knocking noise definitely doesn't sound normal to me. I have no idea what you were pointing to on the side of the bike it was way too dark to tell. As for it not starting right, my first suggestion would be a carb adjustment, but I wouldn't even worry about that until you find out what that knocking is. Just two cents from a rookie.

Carbs are rebuilt. I think the starting thing was my choke wasn't opened right. I'm a rookie too.

i don't hear a clicking sound as much as I hear a rattle, but the sound was really muffled so really hard to say. Mostly hearing a clicking or knocking sound from the top engine it could need a valve adjustment or Tensioner loose which would sound like a rattle. But I didn't hear any clicking or ticking.

My bike will do the same on starting if it sits for more then 2 days but I know its my carbs so your issue may be the same.

NO. It's a 550. That sound is unique to the 550s, and goes away as soon as you rev the bike a tad. If you don't/haven't owned a 550, you'd think something was wrong. It's not.

It's the primary chain "slapping." (And rattling the clutch in the process.) The 550s have a "true" primary chain, that actually drives the trans rather than just driving the jackshaft like in the bigger bikes. This large, Hi-Vo chain is tensioned hydraulically; the tensioner is operated by engine oil pressure. At idle, it will "slap" to one degree or another and that is what you're hearing as "knocking."

The sound can be greatly diminished by geting the "lump-lump-lump" out of the idle.

Fitz thats pretty muck what I figured. Now about removing this "lump-lump-lump" out of the idle?

Precise carb sync. What type of manometer did you use to sync with?

I used the 2 bottle method. Precision at it's worst. Well it's pretty good but not perfect. Should I build a 4 line oil manometer?
