Ok.... i'm looking at putting on engine guards on my 700 airhead.... I found on the maxim-x site instructions to fab vmax guards (currently in production!) to fit the X... is he frame the same or close enough? Also, I saw some guards/highway pegs on denniskirk.com that fit... but it's outrageously expensive and is basically a chrome bar with rubber on the end... is that very functional as an engine guard?

Just offhand I'd say the "X" and the 'airhead' frames are likely not at all the same; on the X the engine is tipped forward quite a bit more than the aircooled bikes.

I think they are very close to the same.
I have swapped engine guards back and forth a couple times.

Fitz; I bet you are thinking Fazer 700 vs airhead (or X). the fazer is tipped forward a bunch.
But the X and airhead are in the same position (just add the radiator and some other minor things.
