I'm stuck yet again on my 550 Maxim.

I've been trying to get the float level set on my carbs for the past 3 hours. They all read low via a clear tube gauge, but no matter how much I bend the tangs down the fuel level still reads low (by a good 1/3 inch). I've tried swapping out tubing but still get the same result. I've got the #1 and #2 tangs bent at about 35 degrees down, I'm worried that they'll just snap if I bend them anymore. Suggestions?

Then I would suggest diagnosing the fuel flow before the fuel gets the to floats. Make sure your petcock is functioning properly and your fuel lines aren't pinched or clogged.

Is the low fuel level consistent across all four carbs? Sounds like something is keep gas from the rack.

    Pull the Floats and Pins.
    Pull the Float valve Seats.
    Inspect the Beenie-screens for debris
    Burnish the Float Valve Seats.
Roll a Section of 1500 Finishing Paper into a tight roll that will squeeze into the Valve Seat Body.
Twist the Finishing Paper to refinish the cylinder.
Cut-off the Section inserted into the Body and refinish the other Seats with a new section of 2500 Paper.

Find the one Carb that you can adjust to a Level within Specs.

Fabricate a Tool to Measure the Height.
A Precision Ruler with Pocket Clip and Toothpick glued on the Pocket Clip works great.
    Measure the correct ones height.
Duplicate the Height on the other three.
Clear Tube Test after adjusting heights.

Start by making sure you don't have the floats in upside down.

Now I feel seriously stupid. The issue was with my homebrew aux tank. Forgot to install a breather vent and it was vapor locking. At least one problem on this bike has an easy solution.

    Question on reassembly:
Should I be anti-seizing the jet/nozzle threads as well as the assembly fittings?

You shouldn't really need to and you don't want even a chance that any will get where it shouldn't. Bowl screws and even hat screws, sure. SPARINGLY.
