    Hi guys, I'm having a problem with my 83' Yamaha Maxim 750.

    A few days ago I was riding and stopped at the ball field to watch my buddies game. When I stopped my bike I used the kill switch. I left the bike for about 2 hours and when I came back the bike wouldn't start. I'll explain now what the bike was doing when I tried to start it;

    -I had the bike in neutral, kill-switch was reset.
    -Hit the starter, nothing happened except the headlight went off and on.
    -Horn works, lights work.

    I got the bike push started with a friend and off I went. I've diagnosed a few things with the bike thus far. I know it's not the battery because the lights and horns work fine. And I know it's not the starter because I jump started the solenoid with a screwdriver and got it started. I also replaced the solenoid so I know it's not the solenoid. Just to be sure I've also checked all the fuses.

    -The problem isn't the starter.
    -The problem isn't the solenoid.
    -The problem isn't the battery.

    I'm thinking that perhaps the problem could be in the starter button / kill-switch on the handlebar.

    Any advice would be appreciated. I'm a beginner at all things mechanical.

    Problem solved.

    I took apart the starter button / switch on the handle bar and re-assembled. The spring behind the start button which moves the wiring to make contact was offset. Must have happened during some rough riding or when hitting the kill-switch.
