Some photos of the 20W halogen marker lights I got from JC Whitney. I'm using them as driving lights to imrove visibility of the motorcycle. When it warms up I'll be trying the clear lenses instead of the amber that is in them now.

They almost look like they could have been factory fitted

I've got mine mounted in almost the exact same location - just a bit higher as I've got the 3-point guards and I mounted them above the middle bar. Mine are some small black pods I got from Wal-mart, they've got 35W bulbs in them, and some silly light blue coloured lenses.
Don't do a whole lot to improve visibility on the road for me, but sure makes a difference to oncoming drivers!

That's my primary motivation. I want them to see that light configuration and stop and think about what is coming down the road.

to add to Micarl's reply, anything to get them to realize there is something coming down the road, is a great idea. looks good, safety!

I thought about driving lights like that, but then I went with Red Underglow LED's there are 4 under my tank pointed at the valve cover gives off a nice reflection, and a bar of 3 mounted on my center stand. There set out like this \I/ one forward straight up the middle, and one slightly out to each side.

The point of the story, It makes the bike extremely visible to oncoming traffic, plus it looks cool. it is also visible from all sides not just in front so it's a little added safety i think

How well does the charging system do with another 40-70 watts being used?

you have to watch the underglows in the states, not legal to ride with underglows on in a lot of states, check your local laws before sticking $ into lighs.

Micarl those lights look pretty good on there, Looks like you got the same weather as on this side of the lake Ha Ha, still had to take my new xj750kr around the block last weekend, It was cold but worth it,

    can't wait for warmer days

With my 70 Watt draw, I definitely notice it when sitting at idle, but it's not enough to drain the battery. Theoretically, the generator's got an extra 188 Watts of power, but that's with optimum conditions and not taking any corroded or dirty bits. Don't think I'll be going with 55W H3's or anything soon though

    Ditto.

Although, I am leaning to replacing the stock headlight with an H4.

I replaced my headlight bulb with an H4 automotive headlight bulb (9003) about 4 years ago and never looked back. I have them in both of my bikes with no problems. They are alot brighter. I also have the 20w mini driving lights mounted on each side of the forks (even with the lower tripple clamp) for early morning rides to work. They do not over load the charging system as long as I've had them on.
In my opinion, it's better to mount the lights higher, so the light doesn't blind oncomming traffic. I can light the road ahead of me without annoying traffic. The clear lense is better then the fog lense and makes the light range alot better. >PD<

Piaa has some stupid brite lights .The 55w lights in my car are as brite as 120w with out useing more power and thay don't heat up like some other lights. Piaa also gives a one year warenty on all there lights. When my bike is done I going to run Peaa in all my lights but bewear thay are pricey.
