I am considering selling my bike and I am not sure how to price it. I use it for a daily 60+ mile commute that is mostly highway. The only accessories are saddlebags from a Maxim 550 installed with custom mounts and a national cycle windscreen. The tires have a lot of miles left in them. I had the seat covered last year and the foam was updated at the same time. I have installed braided brake hoses as well. The cosmetics on the bike are the not great. There is a hole in the left muffler. The bike was laid down by the previous owner at least once and I laid it down on the other side. The engine has some marks on it where it hit the pavement. One side of the tank has a decent dent in it. The right side of the engine still has some remnants of an oil leak that was fixed a while ago.

Wow! When I write it all out like that it makes it sound worse than it actually is.

So basically, how much can I realistically expect for a bike that will take you where you want to go (I went 1100 miles in three days last August) but doesn't look like real pretty? I don't want the hassle of parting the bike out, so I would like to sell it as is.

I paid $1000 for it in 2008. Is there any chance I can get that back? I don't want to be unrealistic and I don't want two bikes in the garage. Well...my wife doesn't want two bikes in the garage.

$1000 sounds fair. I would say $800 should be the lowest you go. Put it up for $1200 and use that 400 for bargain wiggle room.

Your wife doesn't want two bikes in the garage?!?!?! Oh, wait.....neither does mine--- that's why I keep them: in the workshop, under some covers, in a storage shed, at my mother-in-law's, and at a friends garage. See? NONE in the garage!!!!!!

It looks like there are a lot of Maxims available in my area for the price range I am looking at. Most of them have much lower mileage than my 56k miles bike. Perhaps I am overvaluing my bike and can't expect $1000 from it. How much value do the windshield and saddlebags add?
