I'm not certain about other places or riders in the world but here in the US generally a rider will wave, nod or give some acknowledgment to a passing rider. On a ride earlier, I pondered these actions. It was then that it occurred to me, lets make it more interesting. Imagine how funny it would be if we all began short bouts of Roshambo(rock papers scissors)!

Instead of the nonchalant wave, just start banging hands and choose your weapon... rock, paper or scissors! How funny would that be to see 2 passing riders just start playing rock paper scissors. HAHA

This may have been funnier in my head...ha

No. It's funny out here too! What would be really funny though is watching me wreck my bike whilel playing a game with my hands off the bars!

LOL, that's funny. I'm going to start doing that. Just one hand off the bar though, SecaSuca.

man I love waving to scooters. they get all confused like it's their first time and they forget what to do in return.
For big cruisers (can't tell it's a Harley till they actually go by, my pipe is louder) I like to wave my damn arm off like a goon. A clowny way of remarking "hey, why are you scowling and not waving back?"

    HAHA, I love the ideas.

I love that feeling when I get the "scowl" from some old head harley rider. Not the scowl itself but the feeling I get when I think to myself of how my bike handles better, runs better, doesn't smoke, retains all its fluids and in most cases pulls away from any harley at a stop light. Not to mention...it's paid in full, ha! Don't get me wrong, I love a Harley, runs in my blood. What I don't like is the attitude.

Pollock, you get that bike back together?

Love the Harley wave idea. I'm gonna start doing that. I'll use the wave from the "White and Nerdy" music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9qYF9DZPdw (12 seconds in...)

I notice two groups of people who don't wave much--Harleys and crotch rocketeers. Can't we all spread the love? I think the roshambo idea would be just the ticket ;)

Although I guess my standard low arm peace maneuver is pretty close to a "scissors"

If you choose "rock", it's going to look like you're waving your fist at people.

I've found that people don't wave as much on Saturday when everyone is out riding.

Time - around here Sunday is the worst time to get a wave. One thing for sure is; the guys on the crotch rockets are way more likely to give a wave than the HD guys.

Most people around here wave by pointing to the ground or by a real low wave. Most wave back if they see you.

I seem to only get waved at mid-shift, brake, or turn....

or maybe I should quit riding like I'm racing everywhere?

I just found out tapping your helmet means there is a cop or some other hazard for the guy going the other way. Is that a universal sign?

I get a nod or a wave from Harley guys all the time. I wear a half helmet and bandana and now that I think of it usually only when my feet are on the highway pegs. I wave back and wonder if they get pissed off at themselves when they pass me and notice its a "jap piece o shyt, buy American you commie bastard" or at least that's what I think they're saying in their heads.

I get waved at all the time, HD and foreign riders alike. Around here it's a very low wave as you pass by.

So, if I am correct, the unspoken 'official' wave is a low-to-the side? I picked up my first bike in April, so I'm still new the world of being a friendly rider.
