How can I wire switch to have all lights on w/o key in? LED

    * I had a crazy idea.
    * Reminder ALL of my lights are LED now

How/can I wire a switch to light all of my lights up (excluding turn signals) as if key was turned ON w/o the key being installed?

Alternatively, could I rewire the "Park" setting on the ignition switch to accomplish this as well?

    Which would be easier?

    * The switch would be hidden if doing this would basically start the bike w/o a key.
    * I kinda thought it might be cool to have an LED demo mode w/o actually leaving the key in the bike...

Not knowing exactly how the ignition switch is wired, I'm imaging I'd need to jump the wires that the switch normally closes/opens. (Which makes me think it might start w/o the key).

If it will start w/o the key and we don't want super public info how to steal a bike w/o a key just PM me with the wires I need to jump (colors and general locations).

It's too late to read the diagram all that well, but if you put a switch parallel between the main and the headlight and signal switches, so that the Br wire was connected to the R wire or L wire through a switch? Then you could put the bike in park, flip the switch, and you would have the same connections as the ON position.

But keep in mind your bike would run like this, too. Thieves already have this info, no need to hide it! No bike needs a key to press the "start" button. (That I know of)

Wire it via the flasher relay so it blinks on and off as well :)

A relay wired to the switch to operate the lights and a blocking diode to prevent that circuit feeding back to the key switch should work. If you like I can draw a schematic this weekend.

Wouldn't this make the most sense, allow you to leave the key out, and be the easiest to accomplish since it already turns on the taillight circuit anyway?

It would work doing that, but as its for display purposes, the bars would be locked. I was thinking that they should be able to turn. The diode probably could be eliminated because the headlight is run by a relay already.

Mine is wired up so I don't need a key. I flip a switch and my headlight and tailight come on. Then of course I just flip the start button to on and hit it. My bike had a lot of the older safety features taken out; i.e. side stand relay, ignition/steering lock, flasher cancellation feature etc. Gift from the P.O. I could take a pic for you Metal_Bob and show you what I mean.

Locked bars with "park" setting would be perfect actually.

Any diagrams or pics would be great. I've wired in a lot of stuff but not looked at ignition / key wiring yet.

With some one way (diodes) I'd even hook up my signals. Any LONG displays I could bring a spare battery and jumper cables. ;-)

I'd spent a few bucks in relays to show off my $500 worth of LEDs especially at a show and/or contest. :)

And because I'm curious how to do it.

Buy a Micro, Push-On / Push-Off Switch from Radio Shack.
Solder a 3-Foot Length of Small Stereo Wire to the Switch.
Mount the Switch in the side of a 2 Liter Plastic Bottle Cap.
Run the Wires out the other side of the Bottle Cap.
Fill Cap with 5-Minute Epoxy - Black, ... Level at Open end.
    Let cure.
Velcro Switch to Back of Left Control so that you can reach it with your Index Finger.
Run the Wires to the Headlight Bucket.

    Add Relay inside Light Bucket.
Run Fused Wire from LOAD (In) -to- RED Wire on Ign. Switch Pigtail +12V
Attach Wire to Relay for Power to LED's --> LOAD (Out) => To (+) Side of LED's.
Run (-) Side of LED's to Common GROUND.

Attach (+) Side of SWITCH's Wires to Fused +12V Load (In) Wire on Relay
:: +12V Hot comes from fused hot source up to Switch where it goes back to the Relay::
Attach the (-) Wire from the Switch -to- RELAY (+) "Trigger Terminal" (In).
Run Wire from Relay "Trigger Terminal" (Out) => to GROUND.

    On / Off -- Fused -- Switched -- Relay Operated -- +12Volts for LED's

Re: How can I wire switch to have all lights on w/o key in?

    Thanks rick! Even a picture.

I can decypher the directions later... but is that a fused relay way of jumping the key switch basically?

    Edit
After a really read I'd have to wire all leds I want lit with this switch to it? Sounds great for engine/ground/miscellaneous light but not as an alternative to have ignition turned to on...

Maybe I should have asked how to wire in a 2nd keyless ignition switch that would still allow key ignition to function normally. (Not both on at same time).

Great price ! I like that idea. It would also prevent my dangling keys from scratching painted tank I still need to install.

    Hmmmm

yep, kinda figured it was up your alley, and just run the wiring up the frame and to he neck for the park switch and your all set!

or at least i think anyway.

Just don't leave your lights on when you forget to press the button!

Yeah all gadgety and modern like my LEDs :)

I could do that project when I swap out my key switch (I have a keys matching set from my parts bike I want to swap in - ign, fuel, helmet lock and security chain).

    Yar!!!

If I want to get real creative I could use an On-Off-On switch to use the key or remote.

If not for this purpose I might for my radio so it can be always on or on with key/relay. (I can hide the relay/switch in my fairing).

    Keeping it simple silly..

Couldn't I just partially rewire the ignition switch so that both run and park lead to/from the same wire?

Then if I wanted I could toss in the remote control on/off switch for park mode?
